Are you suffering from any symptoms listed below

 

Symptoms of 2weeks duration and

 

Depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure, and

At least four of the following.

  1. Agitation, irritability or retardation.

  2. Loss of energy or fatigue and weakness .

  3. Loss of interest or pleasure or loss of sexual drive.

  4. Feeling of worthlessness, self reproach or inappropriate guilt.

  5. Disturbed thoughts, suicidal ideation.

  6. Poor concentration, indecisiveness.

  7. Poor appetite and weight loss or increased appetite/weight gain

  8. Decreased or increased sleep ,disturbed sleep, early morning awakening.

Then you are suffering from depression which requires treatment.

Remember depression is curable.

 

 

CRITERIA FOR DEPRESSION AS PER DSM-1V

 

  1. 5 or more symptoms of 2 weeks duration representing change from previous functioning ; at least one symptom is either:

  1. Depressed mood or   

  2. Loss of interest or pleasure

  1. Depressed mood 

  2. Loss of interest  

  3. Appetite disturbance

  4. Sleep disturbance 

  5. Psychomotor retardation or agitation

  6. Loss of energy or fatigue 

  7. Loss of concentration

  8. Guilt or feeling of worthlessness  

  9. Suicidal ideations.

  1. Symptoms do not meet criteria for a mixed episode.

  2. Symptoms cause clinically significant distress, impairment in social, occupational and other important fields.

  3. Symptoms are not better accounted for by bereavement.

  4. Symptoms are not able to direct physiological effects of a substance or general medical condition.
